Campfire Pack Meeting

With the new program, I decided to kick out some requirements all in one night!

1
The best part, it was on my kids birthday!!

I had 3 arrow of lights too!

The boys set up the tent, while group 2 made smores. It worked beautifully.
I am so glad our church building has baseball fields, and a fire pit.

We talked about being Kind.
Also 2 new segments! A hot air balloon from camp, and a campfire for tonight!

Since I am a Cubmaster Trainer at Roundtable, I used the campfire program listed in the new Manual

Cryptography Pack Meeting

This was our last Pack Meeting under the old program.
So, I decided to do something I did as a first time Den Leader.
Cryptography.

I found a 10 minute video on natgeo about national treasure and how codes and ciphers go all the way back to Julius Caesar. The kids were entranced. Luckily, I prepared for a small group (since it is the summer) we had only 10 come, but I don't think my activity would have been as smooth - if there were more kids.
I made clues through the whole building. They were to pick up a value, and head to the next spot.

Each team had a different type of cipher.

Then they had to tie up the values in order.

My boy earned a new segment!

And his first belt loop on the new program!
Motor Away, on the far right!

Regatta Pack Meeting

Today was regatta day!
We moved right before our old ward had their regatta, and I am pretty sure theirs wasn't as fun as this one!

So, the snack was Jello with boats.

We had been collecting recyclables for a month. Then let the boys loose on designing their boats!

It has been rainy all month, and todays storm was particularly gnarly.
We didn't have the usual numbers, we only had 16 boys come, but, it was okay.

There were 2 set up areas.
One for the boys, and one for siblings.

The siblings had pool noodles, so nothing too hard. But, they had a great time!

Then it was time to race. But, not before the check if it floats/is it balanced station!

Ready, Set, Blow!

the siblings adored that thy had their own racing gutter

This cub made 4 boats trying to get one to move/balance/not fill up with water. He didn't complain one time, and had a good attitude the whole time.

My boy walked out of pack meeting with the following:
The sailboat segment, Silver Arrowpoint #5, and the World Conservation Patch!
I walked out with sore feet, and colored duct tape on my butt.

I absolutely love my calling.

Reptile Pack Meeting

My kid is terrified of snakes.
I had to convince him to come to pack meeting,
because he knew that I was trying to get him to get over it.

What helped was that I invited 2 other wards to come to this pack meeting, so the boys in my building got to see almost  all of his friends at school...at pack meeting.

The snake guy was incredible. He was perfect for our 70+ boys and they had a GREAT time.

This is where it gets interesting. I knew what was coming up, the boys had no idea.

He had them do the Macarena and then pulled this baby out:

This was the end, and they had every boy touch it before they left. My kid had tears in his eyes, but - he still did it!

It was fun, and they got a cool snake segment!
The value was Brave.

They don't have a lot of cool things like this in Eastern Idaho.
This particular snake guy is from Boise.
I am so glad the stars aligned and we were able to get him here!
